History and origins
Local introductions associate the temple’s origins with the late Lý–early Trần period, while a 2015 study focuses on surviving architectural traces from the Later Lê and Nguyễn dynasties. The date of first foundation must therefore be distinguished from the age of surviving components. The temple has served revolutionary activities, schooling and community life, and became a National Relic in 1992. Restoration of the main sanctuary began in 2025, was handed over in January 2026 and was inaugurated on 26 February 2026.
Architecture & surroundings
Following the 2025–2026 restoration, the main sanctuary retains a 丁-shaped plan, comprising a five-bay front hall with two end bays and a three-bay upper sanctuary. Work repaired deteriorated timbers, raised the floor, restored tiled roofs and added ritual furnishings. The complex also contains an ancestral hall, a bronze Amitābha statue, wooden images, a bronze ritual chime, a stone incense pillar and a Nguyễn-period bell. Phú Thọ newspaper dates the bell to 1832.
Cultural value
The name Ngũ Phúc tự reflects the connection between the five villages. The site preserves devotional art as well as memories of local residents’ daily life, education and revolutionary activities.
Events & festivals
The traditional festival is associated with the tenth day of the first lunar month and includes flower-palanquin processions from the neighbourhoods. In 2026, the festival on 26 February also marked the inauguration of the restored main sanctuary. Sources also record summer retreats at the temple; please follow temple announcements for future sessions.
