Highlights

  • The stone Buddhist altar, a National Treasure
  • Trần-period lotus carving
  • A heritage site of Dòng village
  • Conservation efforts after the fire

History and origins

The temple underwent major repairs in 1626 and was designated a National Relic in 1980. Its stone Buddhist altar was recognized as a National Treasure in 2021. The fire of 23 October 2024 severely damaged the main sanctuary. According to Phú Thọ newspaper, restoration began on 14 January 2026 and reached approximately half of the planned workload after six months. Please follow the management body’s announcements for completion and reopening dates for individual areas.

Architecture & surroundings

Descriptions from before the fire record a plan shaped like the character 工, timber framing, a gateway that also served as a bell tower, and a lotus-shaped stone base carved with multiple tiers of petals, sacred birds and animals. The 2026 project restores the main sanctuary in a traditional architectural form while adding supporting facilities and fire protection. Photographs of the former buildings should not be treated as images of the present construction site.

Cultural value

The temple is connected with Buddhist practice and the collective memory of Dòng village. Its stone objects demonstrate Trần-period carving skills; conservation after the fire is a shared effort by the temple and the community.

Events & festivals

Records mention observances on the first lunar month’s full moon, the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, the seventh lunar month’s full moon, and the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month. Arrangements during restoration are subject to separate temple announcements; please contact the temple before travelling.
