History and origins

Construction began on 11 May 2009 during the Buddha’s Birthday observance. The temple’s development is connected with the growth of Buddhist community life in modern Hòa Bình.

Architecture & surroundings

The complex is described as comprising Upper, Middle and Lower temples. The Upper Temple has a 工-shaped plan, overlapping roof tiers and upturned eaves. Its sanctuary enshrines Śākyamuni Buddha, a Nine Dragons tableau and bodhisattva altars; the courtyard contains an Avalokiteśvara pavilion and bell tower.

Cultural value

A 2017 article in Giác Ngộ newspaper noted Phật Quang’s role in the development of Buddhism in Hòa Bình. The temple hosts monastic rains retreats, guides lay Buddhists in study and practice, and supports the formation of community practice groups.

Events & festivals

The 2026 spring festival included incense offerings, prayers for the country’s peace and the people’s well-being, a procession honouring the Buddha and revered saints, and community cultural activities. Giác Ngộ also records rains retreats and Buddhist study at the temple. Please follow temple announcements for upcoming programmes.
