Highlights

  • A setting near the Lam River and Hội Mountain
  • An Avalokiteśvara statue with a supporting human figure
  • Ritual connections with Quả Sơn Shrine

History and origins

The temple once occupied extensive grounds with gardens, ponds and many ancillary structures. Natural disasters and war changed its appearance, after which residents continued to care for and restore it. The account of Bà Bụt helping Lý Nhật Quang manifest as a sacred figure is a legend and should not be used to date all present-day architecture or statues. The temple has been recognised locally as a provincial historical and cultural monument.

Architecture & surroundings

The front hall, upper sanctuary and gardens form a worship setting close to river and mountain scenery. Particularly notable are the red-lacquered, gilded wooden statues, especially the many-armed Avalokiteśvara image with a human figure supporting it below. Carvings on timber members, bells and inscribed boards contribute to the temple's artistic value.

Cultural value

The temple connects Buddhism with the commemoration of Lý Nhật Quang at Quả Sơn Shrine. Rites expressing gratitude to Bà Bụt reflect the tradition of honouring benefactors and the bonds among communities along the Lam River.

Events & festivals

The Quả Sơn Shrine festival tradition includes a procession to Bà Bụt Temple to offer thanks, associated with around the 20–21st days of the first lunar month. Sources from different periods describe different intervals between festivals; please consult the local programme for each year.
