About
Trúc Lâm Đại Giác Zen Monastery is a place of study and practice in the Trúc Lâm Zen tradition in Sa Pa. Amid highland scenery, it offers local residents and pilgrims a place to pay homage to the Buddha and explore Vietnamese Zen traditions.

Sa Pa’s weather can change quickly; bring a jacket and suitable footwear for sloping paths. On arrival, ask about opening times and areas available for worship. Those wishing to join a retreat should contact the monastery directly rather than enter meditation quarters on their own.

History and origins
After approximately three years of construction, the monastery’s initial phase was inaugurated on 25/10/2020. At the ceremony, the Buddhist Sangha announced the appointment of the abbot and presented monastic rules and a meditation board (thiền bảng), establishing the new institution’s discipline of study and practice.
Architecture & surroundings
The facilities recorded at the inauguration included the main hall, ancestral hall, drum tower, bell pavilion, guesthouse and meditation retreat quarters. The buildings are arranged around worship and practice; monastic areas should remain private and quiet.
Cultural value
The monastery’s establishment meets the needs of Buddhist life in Lào Cai and helps sustain the Trúc Lâm Zen lineage. Alongside its architecture and landscape, its value lies in practical cultivation, learning and a spirit of sharing.
