  • Pháp Vân and Tứ Pháp beliefs
  • A special national monument

History and origins

Studies of structural members, plans and carving styles identify Trần-period origins. Restoration over many centuries produced different architectural layers. The temple received national designation in 1964 and special national designation in 2018.

Architecture & surroundings

The complex includes a three-entrance gate, courtyard, Three Jewels hall, patriarchs' hall, Mother Goddess hall and stupa garden. Its exceptional features are concentrated in the upper sanctuary: timber roof frames and carvings of celestial maidens offering flowers, musicians riding phoenixes, dragons and foliage. These details have both structural and artistic functions.

Cultural value

Carved musicians, musical instruments and kinnara figures provide evidence of Đại Việt's visual arts and cultural life. Worship of Pháp Vân belongs to the Tứ Pháp system and is connected with farming communities' hopes for favourable rain and abundant crops.

Events & festivals

The temple festival, associated with Tứ Pháp rain-praying rites, takes place on the 6–8th days of the third lunar month. It was inscribed as national intangible cultural heritage in 2022. Procession times and each year's programme should be checked through local announcements.
