History and origins

While serving as governor of Lạng Sơn, Ngô Thì Sĩ had Nhị Thanh Cave improved and Tam Giáo Temple built in 1779. The name Nhị Thanh is associated with his literary name. Inscriptions on the cave walls record its creation, visits and the reflections of generations of writers.

Architecture & surroundings

The temple stands to the right and above the entrance to Nhị Thanh Cave, with shrines set among rocky mountain scenery. Beside it, Ngọc Tuyền Stream flows through the cave; stalactites, openings to the sky and rock inscriptions combine Buddhist worship with appreciation of the landscape. A carved image of Ngô Thì Sĩ appears on the rock wall near the entrance.

Cultural value

The name Tam Giáo expresses the harmony of the Three Teachings: Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism. The monument also preserves Hán-Nôm literature, commemorates Ngô Thì Sĩ and introduces the cultural history of Lạng Sơn.

Events & festivals

The Tam Thanh – Tam Giáo festival on the full moon of the first lunar month includes a procession carrying Ngô Thì Sĩ's memorial tablet between the two monuments, together with folk-cultural activities. Each year's timing and route follow local announcements.
