History and origins

Lạng Sơn cultural authorities cite historical records stating that the temple was established during the Hồng Đức era, initially near Giếng Tiên. Around the latter half of the 18th century, after the old temple was damaged, worship moved into Song Tiên Cave. The complex received national monument designation in 1992 and continues to be restored and preserved.

Architecture & surroundings

Stone steps climb the hillside to the temple. Inside the cave, a Buddha hall and shrines for associated worship combine natural vaults and stalactites with religious architecture. Rock-wall inscriptions, including writings connected with Ngô Thì Sĩ, are especially worth exploring.

Cultural value

The temple reflects the interplay of Buddhist worship, Mother Goddess worship, the veneration of immortals and commemoration of people who served the community. The legend of an immortal providing water to Phai Luông villagers expresses gratitude and sharing; water-procession rituals maintain that memory in community life.

Events & festivals

Tiên Temple's festival opens on the 18th day of the first lunar month. In 2026, the opening ceremony took place on 6/3, with a performance of the immortal's story, then singing with đàn tính accompaniment, and a palanquin procession from the temple to Giếng Tiên to collect water before returning. Please check each year's announcements for ceremony times and cultural programmes.
