  • The temple festival on the 8th day of the first lunar month.

History and origins

Temple records mention earlier local religious traditions, Buddhist worship from the Lý period and development while the Mạc dynasty was based in Cao Bằng. Over time, the temple was restored and additional facilities were built. In 1997, it was recognised as a provincial historical and cultural heritage site.

Architecture & surroundings

Local materials describe a traditional Đinh (丁)-shaped plan with side corridors, a rear hall and monastic residential areas. The three-entrance gateway opens into a courtyard linking the ceremonial spaces. Today’s appearance results from several restoration phases continuing the community’s longstanding worship traditions.

Cultural value

The temple also honours figures respected by the community; stories of Trần Quý and Trần Kiên belong to the tradition of folk legends. Buddhist worship and the spring festival allow families to meet, express gratitude and maintain local customs.

Events & festivals

Đống Lân’s festival takes place on the 8th day of the first lunar month. In 2026, opening ceremonies began on the evening of 23/2, the 7th lunar day, with incense offerings, processions and traditional rites; visitors attended the festival on 24/2. Please consult the schedule announced each year by the temple and local authorities.
