  • Stone stelae and devotional statues associated with Láng village’s history.

History and origins

According to temple tradition, King Lý Anh Tông ordered Chiêu Thiền Temple built to commemorate his father, King Lý Thần Tông, and Zen master Từ Đạo Hạnh. Recorded restoration dates include 1656, 1901 and 1989. Its present appearance results from many periods, not an entirely intact Lý-dynasty structure.

Architecture & surroundings

Beyond successive gates, brick courtyards and tree-lined paths lead to the octagonal pavilion, then the worship hall, upper sanctuary and corridors. The pavilion has layered roofs with upturned corners, while a stupa garden stands behind. The arrangement makes each successive space legible before entering the sanctuaries.

Cultural value

Devotional statues, stone stelae and processions preserve memories of Từ Đạo Hạnh in Láng village life. These objects also provide evidence of art and the history of temple restoration across different periods.

Events & festivals

Láng Temple’s festival is associated with the 7th day of the third lunar month and ceremonies commemorating Zen master Từ Đạo Hạnh. The scale of processions and annual programmes may differ; please follow temple and local announcements.
