Highlights

  • A location at the foot of Bài Thơ Mountain in Hồng Gai.
  • A gateway with a Buddha image and bell tower on its upper level.
  • Buddhist worship alongside traditional subsidiary shrines.

History and origins

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism dates the temple’s construction to 1941. It has been repaired and enlarged in different phases; Buddhist sources record building work from 2006 and statue casting in early 2008. Its present appearance thus reflects successive contributions by monastics, lay Buddhists and the community.

Architecture & surroundings

The gateway rises through several levels, with a Buddha image and bell tower above. The worship hall and upper sanctuary form a 丁-shaped plan. The Buddhist sanctuary has a rich collection of devotional images; sources also mention a gilded wooden Nine Dragons tableau. Subsidiary shrines to Trần Hưng Đạo and Vân Phương Holy Mother show the coexistence of different devotional traditions.

Cultural value

The temple is a focus of spiritual life for Hồng Gai residents, connected with the landscape and cultural memory around Bài Thơ Mountain. Worship of the Buddha alongside commemoration of revered figures reflects religious practice within this coal-mining region’s community.

Events & festivals

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism records the temple festival on the 24th day of the third lunar month. Exact dates and programmes should be checked against annual announcements; please ask the temple before arranging a pilgrimage.
