Highlights
- A Lý-period stone stele recognized as a National Treasure
- The history of the temple’s construction in 1107
- A nationally designated archaeological site
- A setting for local Buddhist community life
History and origins
The inscription records that Grand Tutor Hà Hưng Tông oversaw the construction of the temple in 1107. After many changes, its foundations and surviving objects became important archaeological evidence. The stele was designated a National Treasure in 2013, and the temple’s archaeological site became a National Relic in December 2023.
Architecture & surroundings
Today’s devotional buildings are products of restoration and redevelopment, not the entire original Lý-period architecture. The notable bluestone stele rests on a turtle’s back and is decorated with dragons and flowing motifs characteristic of Lý art. Old foundations and architectural materials help researchers understand the scale of the former temple.
Cultural value
The inscription records the merit of building the temple while also reflecting the history of the Hà lineage in Vị Long and contemporary social life. The site’s value lies in the connection between present-day religious practice and rare surviving written, sculptural and archaeological evidence.
Events & festivals
The temple festival is associated with the Buddha’s Birthday season and includes a Buddha-bathing ceremony and community cultural activities. On 24 May 2026, Yên Nguyên commune held the festival together with its local Sports Congress. Please follow temple and organizer announcements for future festival seasons.
