Highlights

  • A timber gateway and bell tower with architectural origins in the 18th century.
  • A National Architectural and Artistic Relic since 2004.
  • The restoration project was handed over in late 2024.

History and origins

Local press sources date the temple to the 18th century, with repeated subsequent repairs. It was designated a National Architectural and Artistic Relic in 2004. A restoration project began in December 2023 and was handed over on 4 December 2024, covering the gateway, bell tower, rear hall and gardens. A Buddhist news report in October 2025 noted flood damage; this describes conditions at that time and does not mean the temple is currently closed.

Architecture & surroundings

The main plan is described as shaped like the character 二. The gateway also functions as a bell tower, with three central bays, two side bays and two roof tiers; the ironwood framing combines traditional extended-beam and stacked-block techniques. Sources record bells, red-lacquered and gilded Buddha images, and subsidiary devotional statues. Old timberwork and ritual furnishings are highlights of the site and should be protected during visits.

Cultural value

The temple is dedicated to Buddhist worship and also includes spaces connected with folk beliefs. It has been preserved through contributions from the State, community and lay Buddhists. Historical sources also record the name Hồng Kỳ during 1960–1964.

Events & festivals

Local records mention Kỳ Yên peace-prayer observances and Vu Lan ceremonies at the temple. Please consult temple announcements for practice schedules, programmes for each observance and visiting conditions before travelling.
