Highlights

  • A site linked to the Vietnam Liberation Army in August 1945.
  • A memorial stilt house within the temple grounds.
  • Reconstructed Buddhist sanctuary, ancestral hall and other shrines.

History and origins

In August 1945, forces commanded by Võ Nguyên Giáp assembled and discussed their battle plan at the temple before advancing to liberate Thái Nguyên’s provincial capital. After the period of scorched-earth resistance, local residents rebuilt the temple in 1993, with further construction in 2002. In 2011, it was included in a group of sites associated with the Vietnam Liberation Army designated as a National Historic Relic.

Architecture & surroundings

The complex includes a main Buddhist sanctuary, ancestral hall, Mother Goddess shrine and a courtyard with Buddha images. The shrines have tiled roofs and upturned eaves; the memorial stilt house draws inspiration from Tày and Nùng architecture in Việt Bắc. Inside are memorial spaces for President Hồ Chí Minh and General Võ Nguyên Giáp, where visitors should maintain a dignified manner.

Cultural value

The temple is a place of local religious practice and historical education. Its significance lies in the connection between the temple, the community and the events of August 1945.

Events & festivals

The temple welcomes Buddhist worshippers and groups studying history and local traditions. Please contact the temple or management body for ceremonial programmes, group visiting arrangements and a suitable visiting time.
