History and origins
Materials on Vietnamese temples record that Zen master Pháp Hóa founded the temple in the late 17th century; in 1716 it received a plaque bearing the name Sắc tứ Thiên Ấn tự. Damaged during the 20th century, the buildings were reconstructed in 1959–1961 and restored further in later years.
Architecture & surroundings
The worship halls and stupa area occupy a relatively level part of the mountaintop. The Buddha hall, courtyards, well and trees form a whole that serves Buddhist study and practice while relating to the landscape. Older details and rebuilt sections should be distinguished when visiting.
Cultural value
Thiên Ấn and Trà Khúc have entered local literature and collective memory. Stories about digging the well and bringing the bell to the temple belong to its folk traditions; appreciating their cultural value does not require treating miraculous elements as proven events.
Events & festivals
Please ask the temple about upcoming commemorations of patriarchs and daily practice sessions. A visit on an ordinary day can also offer a quiet pause amid the scenery of Thiên Ấn Mountain and the Trà Khúc River; please follow the temple’s visitor guidance.
