Groups should notify the temple in advance for guidance on entrances, parking and areas open to visitors.

Highlights

  • An old temple associated with Mỹ Lộc village and the history of Tiên Lãng.
  • A Buddha entering Nirvana carved from weathered wood, described in materials from 2023.
  • A three-entrance gate, worship halls and timber structures within the reconstructed grounds.

History and origins

The temple's introductory materials do not identify a precise founding year. Articles trace its tradition to the Lý period; this should be understood as transmitted historical information, not the date of every present-day building. During the resistance against French colonial rule, the temple was affected by the scorched-earth resistance policy, and many monks took part in defending their homeland. Reconstruction began in late 2008, with some initial structures completed in 2010.

Architecture & surroundings

The grounds contain a three-entrance gate, worship halls, monks' living and communal spaces and ancillary structures. Layered tiled roofs, curved eaves, rows of columns and timber frames distinguish the halls. The weathered-wood statue of the Buddha entering Nirvana is a feature reported in the press; courtyards, ornamental plants and smaller buildings provide places to pause while visiting.

Cultural value

The temple serves local Buddhist worship while preserving memories of monks' contributions during the resistance. Rebuilding the sacred spaces reflects the continuity of Buddhist life in this riverside region.

Events & festivals

On 9/5/2025, Thắng Phúc Temple hosted the Tiên Lãng district Buddhist celebration of the Buddha's birthday. The temple also holds study, practice and community activities on various occasions. Please follow announcements for the programmes and schedules of the year you plan to visit.
