History and origins
Tourism materials associate the temple with Lê Thị Thơ, commonly called bà Thợ, whose Dharma name was Diệu Thiện. From an initial place of religious practice, community contributions supported construction and repairs across successive periods.
Architecture & surroundings
Buildings and courtyards follow the mountainside at different levels, connected by stairs. The surrounding landscape is an important part of the visit, but visitors should remain on safe paths.
Structures follow the slope and are joined by steps. The cave shrine, courtyards and stupas lie at different heights; watch your footing, use open routes and allow time to rest if needed.
Cultural value
The story of Thanh Xà and Bạch Xà belongs to local folk tradition and is not presented as a proven historical event. The site contributes to Sam Mountain’s pilgrimage culture.
Stories about the cave and snakes form part of local memory. Alongside these traditions, the Sam Mountain landscape, layered courtyards and living practice give Hang Temple its distinctive character.
Events & festivals
Rituals follow the temple’s calendar. The Sam Mountain festival season may be crowded, but not every event in the wider area is held at Hang Temple.
