History and origins
The national tourism authority presents a tradition dating the temple to the 10th century and records a major expansion in the 19th century. Buildings continued to be added and restored over several periods. In 1994, it was recognised as a national historical and cultural heritage site.
The age of the religious institution does not mean that all surviving building components share the same date.
Architecture & surroundings
The main hall’s layered roofs, Nāga figures and Khmer motifs create a distinctive appearance. Inside are columns, Buddha statues and murals; the approach through a wooded courtyard leads from the surrounding landscape into the ceremonial space.
Cultural value
Beyond worship, the temple is associated with teaching Khmer, Pāli and community traditions. Its activities help transmit the language, arts and ways of life of southern Vietnam’s Khmer people.
Events & festivals
Chôl Chnăm Thmây, Sene Đolta and Ok Om Bok are important cultural occasions. Please check local schedules and ask which rites take place at the temple, as activities around Ao Bà Om may be spread across several venues.
