History and origins

Đồng Nai Library records several explanations of Bửu Phong’s 17th-century origins, from a thatched hermitage to construction by Zen masters. This page retains the century rather than selecting a year on which sources disagree.

The temple has undergone many restorations, including conservation of the teaching hall and monastic quarters in 2009 and 2013.

Architecture & surroundings

The layout changed as the temple expanded. The façade displays many ceramic-mosaic motifs; stupas of varied forms stand to the sides and rear. Rock formations and mountain terrain help give the ensemble its character.

Cultural value

Bửu Phong is linked to the spread of Buddhism in southern Vietnam and the history of Biên Hòa’s residents. Its material heritage accompanies practices of honouring patriarchs, preserving scriptures and community Buddhist worship.

Events & festivals

Patriarch memorial ceremonies and Buddhist observances follow specific temple schedules. Please ask for current announcements before attending; ceremonies recorded in historical materials are not automatically part of the present year’s programme.
